The bracket itself may seem like a loss for the SEC with only three teams in and one of them in Dayton, but the committee's choice of Vanderbilt over South Carolina is a big feather in the cap of scheduling up. The Commodores finished 19-13 when they lost their last game to you know who, while South Carolina went 23-8. But Vanderbilt played the SEC's second most difficult non-conference schedule by KenPom and was one of five league teams to play a Top 25 non-conference schedule by RPI. South Carolina played the league's second easiest non-conference schedule by KenPom, which ranked 270th overall in RPI. Vanderbilt caught Kansas in Maui and Texas in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge, but scheduled Baylor, Dayton, Purdue, and Stony Brook among others. South Carolina played no ranked teams in the non-conference and the only power conference teams on their schedule were the annual date with Clemson and 8-24 St. John's.
