Another series loss has put Tennessee in a tough spot.  They are currently sitting tied for last in the SEC with Auburn and outside of the SEC Tournament.  This week The Vols will be home for a midweek game against Appalachian State before heading to Auburn for a must win series starting Thursday.

This past weekend saw the Vols in Columbia, South Carolina where they took on the Gamecocks in a three game series.  They dropped all three games, taking the early lead both Saturday and Sunday before quickly losing it each time.  Sunday's game saw the Vols leave the bases loaded three separate times, including in the ninth inning when they loaded them up with no outs and down one run.  All told the Vols stranded 33 runners on base across the three games while scoring 13 runs.

Tennessee leads the all-time series with Appalachian State 12-4.  The Vols won the last meeting 5-3 back in February 2014.  Prior to that the Mountaineers had won two straight dating back to 2009.

Appalachian State are on a four game losing streak, having dropped a midweek game last week against Campbell before being swept by Troy this past weekend.  The Vols are the second SEC team the Mountaineers have faced this year.  South Carolina won 5-0 against them earlier this season.

After this quick stop at home the Vols will return to the road as they Travel to Auburn this week and Middle Tennessee State next week before returning home to host Vanderbilt.
