Tuesday: mostly still about the Orange and White Game
As relayed last week, Tennessee basketball assistant coach Chris Ogden is headed to join the newly-hired Chris Beard, though now that appears it'll be at Texas Tech, not UNLV. In any case, Rick Barnes evidently wasn't interested in dallying about a replacement, as he's hired Tulsa assistant Michael Schwartz, a former player and graduate assistant of his at Texas. Prior to his time at Tulsa, Schwartz was associate head coach at Fresno State and an assistant at Miami.
Orange and White Game, Part I
While watching the PUNTER CHALLENGE and what effectively became a touch game due to all the non-contact jerseys didn't exactly make for a riveting viewing experience, Butch Jones and company did plenty to impress visiting recruiting as 3 made their commitment official Saturday, including 3* OLB Solon Page III of Marietta, the excellently-named 3* CB Cheyenne Labruzza of Albany, LA(?), and 4* WR KD Nixon of Desoto, TX. The Vols currently have six commitments in the 2017 class.
- Orange and White Game, Part II
As Will noted on Saturday, Preston Williams looked particularly good in the spring game, pulling in three catches for 77 yards and taking home the Harvey Robinson Award for most improved offensive player, and Butch Jones continued to rave about him in the postgame. On the other side of the ball, Kahlil McKenzie's new number will indeed be 99. Meanwhile, Fox's Bruce Feldman (when did that happen?) has been poking around Knoxville the last week, and is ready to declare that there's planty of reason to believe in Tennessee this year.
