Friday is for ugh, I guess
- Tyler Summitt, head coach of the Louisiana Tech women's team and son of legendary coach Pat Summitt, resigned Thursday as a result, apparently, of "engaging in a relationship that has negatively affected the people I love, respect and care about the most." As of this writing details are still surfacing, but SBN's own Swish Appeal is reporting multiple sources as confirming that Summitt "had an inappropriate relationship with is a player, and that she is pregnant."
-
Football Stuff Derek Barnett has a very solid year last season, but he's reaching for far greater heights, as outlined in this ESPN piece. Meanwhiles, EPSN's preseason FPI rankings have the Vols at fifth in the nation.
-
Basketball Rumors are floating up that Rick Barnes assistant Chris Ogden is considering joining Chris Beard's staff at UNLV. Chris's gonna stick together, I guess. Ogden was the captain of Barnes' '03 Final Four team at Texas.
-
Lady Vols ESPN 3* Kamera Harris committed to the Lady Vols Thursday. Harris, a 6'3" post player from Hampton, GA, set a national single-game record for blocks in 2014 with 28(!!!!). Also, Tennessee and Holly Warlick have parted ways with assistant coach/recruiting coordinator Kyra Elzy (read into that what you will). Elzy played for the Lady Vols '96-'01 and was a member of both the back-to-back '97-'98 championship teams. (Thanks to Bruce in the comments for pointing out me missing both these stories yesterday- sorry about that.)
- Peyton is thinking seriously about moving into broadcasting, sounds like, which is a poor career choice for him, I think, because it doesn't involve coaching us. Anyways, for some reason apparently he asked John Madden his opinion.
- Have a good weekend, everybody. Pour one out for the outlaw.
Sing him out, Willie:
And maybe one for the road:
Put your fave Merle song in the comments.
