Rocky Top Talk SEC East & West Picks

Georgia v Tennessee Photo by Scott Cunningham/Getty Images

SEC Media Days begin today from Birmingham, which means the week will be full of predictions. We polled the RTT staff to get our own picks for the SEC East and West Divisions:

SEC EAST

1. Tennessee

2. Georgia

3. Florida

4. Kentucky

5. South Carolina

6. Missouri

7. Vanderbilt

To no surprise, we like the home team: six of our eight staff writers gave the Vols the first place nod, with the other two going to Georgia. Every 1-3 vote went to Tennessee, Florida, or Georgia with the exception of one third place vote for South Carolina. The separation between the bottom four was thin: each earned at least one fourth place vote, with just a single point separating South Carolina and Missouri for fifth place.

SEC WEST

1. Alabama

2. LSU

3. Ole Miss

4. Arkansas

5. Auburn

6. Texas A&M

7. Mississippi State

Seven of eight first place votes here went to the Crimson Tide, with LSU earning the other first place vote and all seven other second place votes. Ole Miss did no worse than fourth, while Mississippi State earned seven of eight last place votes. We’re not used to seeing Tennessee’s rotating SEC West opponent this far down a poll, though the margin was fairly thin between Auburn and Texas A&M for fifth place.

Do 75% of Tennessee fans think the Vols are winning the SEC East this year? Even higher? Anybody else taking someone other than Bama in the SEC West? Leave us your picks in the comments as we follow along with day one of SEC Media Days.
