Thaxton, out of Alexandria, Va., is rated a three-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite Rankings (0.8497). He is listed at 6’5” and 230 pounds.
The Virginia native had previously been committed to the University of Virginia, before withdrawing that commitment in November. His other finalists included Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.
Thaxton informed the UT coaching staff of his commitment on Sunday, while he was in Knoxville for an official visit, and made the announcement official on Tuesday. He will be the seventh defensive lineman in the 2017 class, alongside Eric Crosby, Kivon Bennett, Matthew Butler, DeAndre Johnson, Marquez Bembry, and Latrell Bumphus. Congratulations to Ryan and his family!
