Week five of the college football season has come and gone and the latest edition of both the AP and USA Today Coaches Polls were released on Sunday afternoon.
To no one’s surprise, Alabama remains solid at #1 according to the voters following their 66-3 win over Ole Miss on Saturday night. Equally impressive was Clemson’s dominating win in Blacksburg over 12th ranked Virginia Tech. The win was enough to keep the Tigers at #2 in both major polls. There were, however a few shake ups as Washington State took a major jump after their 30-27 win over 5th ranked USC on Friday. The Trojans tumbled out of the top five all the way down to 14 in the AP and 15 in the Coaches.
As far as the SEC is concerned, both LSU and Mississippi State exit the top 25 following two bad losses on Saturday, while Auburn moves up a notch in both polls. After blanking Tennessee, 41-0 on Saturday, Georgia entered the top 5 in the AP Poll, coming in at #5. Florida, despite a 38-24 win over Vanderbilt dropped a spot for the second straight week in the AP poll.
