As Tennessee athletic director John Currie stated on Sunday afternoon at his press conference, former Tennessee head coach Butch Jones was fired without cause. That means that Jones is owed the full value of his buyout.
The school released the official termination letter today, which you can see here.

If your eyes aren’t good enough to read that, it basically says that Tennessee will honor the contract of Jones and pay him his buyout in full. That number came to $8.25 million. The letter says that that figure will be “mitigated” by the salary of Jones’ next job.
Butch will be paid monthly until February 28th, 2021. That’s a monthly paycheck of a little over $200,000.
The letter says that Jones must complete the University’s exit procedures by Friday, November 17th. Jones will receive his first payment by the end of the month.
Currie ended the letter with, “Coach Jones, we wish you well in your future endeavors.” And just like that, the Butch Jones era is finished.
