College Basketball: Tennessee vs. High Point Preview

The Vols are looking to start 2-0.

NCAA Basketball: SEC Basketball Tipoff Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

We’ll take a little break in the search for a new head football coach tonight as we watch the Tennessee basketball team take on High Point. The Vols are 1-0 on the year, following a 88-53 thumping of Presbyterian.

High Point got their year off on the right foot with a 100-66 win over William and Mary. “It was one of the best, if not the best performance at High Point since I've been here," High Point head coach Scott Cherry said after the game.

Jahaad Proctor scored 28 for Panthers, while Andre Fox added 22. Brandonn Kamga posted 18 points and seven rebounds. That trio will undoubtedly be the focus of the Volunteers tonight.

Tennessee might just have a “big three” of their own in development. Jordan Bowden, Grant Williams and Admiral Schofield led the way for the Vols against Presbyterian. That combination was able to put the Blue Hose away early on last Friday night.

There’s still plenty of unknown to this bunch, however. I’d expect guys like James Daniel III and Josh Bone to emerge as primary options sooner or later. We can’t forget about Chris Darrington or Lamonte Turner either.

I’m fascinated to see this rotation take some shape. We should get a little more information tonight, just a week ahead of a trip to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. We’ll figure out exactly where this team is at as the Vols are slotted to take on the 19th ranked Purdue Boilermakers in the opening round.
