The reported hire of Greg Schiano isn’t going over well in Tennessee, to say the least. Most of the fans are furious, after names like Jon Gruden, Dan Mullen and Chris Petersen filled the rumor mills.
But this isn’t all quite about football. A Washington Post report linked Schiano to the Penn State scandal last year. Schiano has denied the allegations.
Now we have state representatives voicing their displeasure about the potential Schiano hire. Here’s Jason Zachary of the 14th district.
I have reached out to @John_Currie and others in administration at UT expressing that WE as a TN Community do not approve of Schiano. #higherstandards

And Eddie Smith.
Our Tennessee standards mean something, and a Greg Schiano hire would be anathema to all that our University and our community stand for. I sincerely hope that these rumors are not true, because even serious consideration would be unacceptable.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a potential hire come under so much fire before. This is unprecedented stuff. For what it’s worth, nothing has been finalized yet. I’ll say this one more time, nobody does a coaching search like the University of Tennessee.
