Tennessee head coach Butch Jones took to the podium for his weekly Monday press conference. The burning questions this week surrounded the injury situation.
Jones started with good news. Quarterback Jarrett Guarantano is probable for this weekend’s game against Missouri. Guarantano left the game against Southern Miss in the 2nd quarter, giving way to Will McBride after injuring his ankle.
Butch also said that freshman cornerback Shawn Shamburger is probable. Shamburger received a lot of love from the staff during camp and finally broke into the starting lineup against Alabama. Looks like we’ll see him this Saturday during a stiff test against a great pass attack.
Brett Kendrick, Drew Richmond and Marquez Callaway are all questionable. Marcus Tatum has been ruled out already. It goes without saying, but Tennessee really needs Richmond and Kendrick back. Tennessee had six scholarship offensive lineman available against Southern Miss. It’s hard enough trying to play young quarterbacks, but it’s much harder when you can’t protect them.
Evan Berry and Latrell Williams are out for the rest of the season. Berry returned and provided an immediate spark for Tennessee, giving them great opening field position. Unfortunately, that’s all he was able to do. He was seen leaving the field on a cart and Jones confirmed that Tennessee was shutting him down for the season.
