It’s not too often that a team has to find a replacement for an outgoing punter who holds all kinds of records and awards, but that’s the situation Tennessee finds themselves in heading into 2018.
On Saturday, Jeremy Pruitt and his staff appeared to have added a JUCO as a preferred walk-on in Grayson Pontius out of East Mississippi Community College.

With Trevor Daniel’s exit, the Vols have two punters on the roster in Grayson Linde and Joe Doyle. Pontius enrolled at EMCC in 2015 before transferring to Marshall for a year in 2016. He returned to EMCC for the 2017 season and Tennessee will be his fourth college stint in four years.
The addition of Pontius is sure to add some competition to the roster at the very least and he also presents a third option for the Vols special teams unit heading into the 2018 season.
