Tennessee Recruiting: Vols offer four star defensive end

Tennessee continues to go after top talent in the 2019 class.

Tennessee’s work on the 2019 class has continued. The transition to the base 3-4 look has opened the door for several new prospects to receive offers from Tennessee. Jeremy Pruitt, Chris Rumph and Kevin Sherrer are on the hunt for edge rushers that might fit that 3-4 mold.

They added one to their wish list last night. Tennessee extended an offer to De’Monte Russell, as he announced on Twitter.

Russell is a 6-5, 225 pound weak-side defensive end out of Jackson, Mississippi. He is considered a four star prospect, sitting just outside of 247’s composite top 200 for the 2019 class.

Russell holds offers from Florida State, Kentucky, Alabama, Oregon, LSU, Mississippi State and Ole Miss. He fits the bill of a guy that could stand up and get after the passer, likely filling an outside linebacker role in a 3-4 scheme.

You can never have too many pass rushers on the roster. I’d expect Pruitt and Sherrer to set their sights on more guys like this in the near future.
