Another staff spot filled.

Earlier today, Rivals’ Tennessee site broke a story reporting the likely addition of Charles Kelly to Jeremy Pruitt’s new staff. They are now reporting that Kelly will in fact join the Vols and will handle the special teams duties along with coaching the safeties.

Willie Taggart chose not to retain Kelly as defensive coordinator, letting him go after Florida State’s Independence Bowl win over Southern Miss. He will head to Knoxville in the next few days, per the report.

Kelly worked with Jeremy Pruitt in 2013, coaching linebackers and special teams while Pruitt was the defensive coordinator at Florida State. Kelly took over for Pruitt when he left the following season.

He is the 9th reported assistant that has been hired by Tennessee, who has yet to formally announce any of the current staff outside of Pruitt.

Kelly joins Kevin Sherrer (defensive coordinator), Terry Fair (defensive backs), Tracy Rocker (defensive line) and Chris Rumph (outside linebackers) on the defensive staff.
