Rick Barnes and the Tennessee Volunteers (5-1) will head south to Atlanta on Sunday to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (4-2). Tennessee destroyed Georgia Tech last year, notching an impressive 81-58 win. It was one of those flashes we saw from that 2016 group. This year, those flashes have turned into consistency for the Volunteers.

Tennessee already has impressive wins over N.C. State and Purdue. They dominated a Mercer team last Wednesday night that was picked to win the SoCon. The national media is starting to take notice.

The Vols debuted as a 10 seed in Joe Lunardi’s latest Bracketology this week.

For Georgia Tech, they’ve had an... interesting start to their season. They played UCLA tight, got a solid win over Northwestern, but lost to Grambling State earlier this week. The Yellow Jackets nearly lost to Bethune-Cookman earlier in the season, only winning by three.

Tech has a trio of players currently averaging 14 points per game. Center Ben Lammers is probably their most important piece. He’s pulling down eight rebounds per game and averaging nearly four blocks per game. The 6-10, 234 pound senior will be a load for Tennessee star Grant Williams on both ends of the floor.

Jose Alvarado and Tadric Jackson hold things down in the backcourt for Tech, completing their impressive trio.

The Yellow Jackets are playing some of the best defense in the country, allowing just 59 points per game. That’s good for 13th nationally. Tennessee is scoring 79 points per game, so we’ll see how that shakes out.

If you buy into Kenpom rankings, Tennessee should roll here. The Vols are 25th while Georgia Tech is 80th.
