According to VolQuest.com, Jeremy Pruitt is set to hire Tyson Helton as his offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Tennessee. Helton — the younger brother of Clay Helton — is currently the passing game coordinator for the USC Trojans.
Some Tennessee fans were pleading for Tee Martin to be the next head coach at Tennessee. The former national championship winning quarterback at Tennessee and current USC offensive coordinator reportedly wasn’t interested in joining Pruitt’s staff in Knoxville, however.
Instead, it’s Martin’s colleague Helton getting the offensive coordinator gig. Helton ran Jeff Brohm’s offense at Western Kentucky before leaving for USC.
In addition to Helton, Tennessee is expected to name current Colorado State offensive coordinator Will Friend as their offensive line coach. Friend served as the offensive line coach at Georgia for four seasons before joining Mike Bobo at Colorado State.
Terry Fair is also expected to join the staff. Current running backs coach Robert Gillespie is one that Pruitt “would like to keep,” according to VolQuest.
