We all miss football - only 67 days until the DISH Orange and White Game. In that spirit, we’re going to take a more in-depth look at the Vols’ 2017 class over the next few weeks. Today, we’ll look at the newest defensive backs in Knoxville.
S Maleik Gray, 6-2, 190 lbs, LaVergne, Tenn.
Maleik Gray is the third-highest rated player in this class for Tennessee, behind only Trey Smith and Ty Chandler. Gray is rated as a 4-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite (0.9607) and Rivals (5.9). He committed to Tennessee in June leading into his senior season. Gray had offers from many of the best schools in the country, including Alabama, Florida State, LSU and Michigan.
CB Cheyenne Labruzza, 6-0, 185 lbs, Albany, La.
Labruzza is the second-highest rated defensive back for Tennessee in this class, rated as a 3-star recruit by both the 247 Composite (0.8776) and Rivals (5.6). He is listed by 247 as the #44 cornerback in the 2017 class and one of the top 20 players from Louisiana. Labruzza’s other top offers included Florida, Ole Miss, LSU and Texas A&M.
CB Terrell Bailey, 6-0, 175 lbs, Marrero, La.
Terrell Bailey, the second defensive back from the state of Louisiana for the Vols, is rated as a 3-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite (0.8695), but a 4-star by Rivals (5.8). Bailey listed Texas A&M as his leader last April before ultimately committing to Tennessee in September. His other top offers included Houston, Notre Dame, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech.
S Theo Jackson, 6-2, 175 lbs, Nashville, Tenn.
Theo Jackson is a homegrown product from Overton High School in Nashville. He is rated as a 3-star player by both the 247Sports Composite (0.86650 and Rivals (5.7). Jackson is a long-time commit to Butch Jones and company, having announced his allegiance to the Vols last June. Jackson’s other offers included Louisville, LSu and Vanderbilt.
CB Shawn Shamburger, 6-0, 185 lbs, Moultrie, Ga.
Shawn Shamburger committed to Tennessee back in November out of Georgia high school power Colquitt County. He is listed as a 3-star recruit by both the 247Sports Composite (0.8440) and Rivals (5.6). Shamburger’s other offers included Auburn, Ole Miss and Purdue.
