One of Butch Jones’ first recruits makes it to Friday night in the NFL Draft: cornerback Cameron Sutton was taken with the 94th overall pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Sutton came to campus as a three-star prospect in 2013 but started from day one. As a sophomore he had three interceptions and 13 pass break ups in a stellar campaign. He came back for his senior season in 2016 but suffered a foot injury against Ohio and missed the next six games. His best film may still come from that sophomore season as a lot of teams simply stopped throwing at him.
Sutton also excelled as a punt returner at Tennessee, leading the nation in punt return average in 2015 with two taken back to the house. It’ll be interesting to see if the Steelers choose to use him in that capacity.
He becomes the third Vol taken in the 2017 NFL Draft.
