Martinez had offers from a number of schools, including Alabama, Oklahoma, Louisville, Georgia, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt. The 6-2, 198 pound dual threat quarterback ranks 32nd in ESPN’s top 300 rankings.
Here’s word from the man himself.

This is Tennessee’s 10th commitment to this point and 2nd quarterback. Michael Penix Jr. committed just last month, so that’s a potential situation to watch.
Martinez was committed to Cal before a visit during the Orange and White game. That apparently was enough to sway him to Knoxville. I’m sure the departure of Sonny Dykes didn’t help Cal’s standing with Martinez.
The Vols clearly wanted to add a couple passers in 2018 and that’s exactly what they’ve done. The position should be in good hands with redshirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano already on the roster and with Penix and Martinez coming next season.
