Tennessee picked up one of their biggest recruits of the 2018 class a couple weeks ago when they landed Adrian Martinez. ESPN released an (Insider) article last week that dropped comparisons to their top five quarterback prospects of the 2018 cycle. Martinez checked in a fifth overall on their list, coming in as the third overall pocket passer.
ESPN’s comparison for Martinez was Jarrett Stidham — the current quarterback in line for the starting gig at Auburn after transferring from Baylor. Stidham was thought to be the next in line in a long line of successful Baylor quarterbacks, but cut bait when things went south under Art Briles.
Billy Tucker (an ESPN recruiting analyst) mentioned how both Martinez and Stidham are pass first quarterbacks, but are athletic enough to make something happen on the move. Tucker also praised Martinez’s timing, touch and demeanor.
The hype train with Stidham is starting to take off. He’s considered by some as a dark horse Heisman contender. His 1,200+ yard, 12 touchdown season in limited action during the 2015 campaign has fans in Auburn ready to take a big step forward this season.
Who knows what Martinez turns into down the road, but you can check out his highlights for yourself here. The touch and downfield accuracy do seem to be in the arsenal.
