The sportsbook Bet Online has released their odds for conference championships today. To nobody’s surprise, Alabama is the overwhelming favorite to take down the SEC once again this season, checking in at -175.
They have Tennessee listed as the team with the 6th best odds, sitting at 14-1. Tennessee is listed behind both Florida and Georgia in the East. Georgia is the favorite to come out of the Eastern division with 7-1 odds to win the conference all together, which seems a little steep to me. Florida seems like the better bet here at 10-1 — but let’s be honest — nobody is getting past Alabama.
Auburn and LSU were the other two teams listed ahead of Tennessee. No other team was in the ballpark, really. Texas A&M at 40-1, Arkansas at 50-1, Ole Miss at 66-1 and South Carolina at 66-1 were the closest behind the Vols.
Vanderbilt comes in with the worst odds, checking in at 150-1.
I don’t think any of us here realistically expect Tennessee to go to Atlanta and win the conference this year, but again — these odds show us expectations over anything. Vegas has the Vols slotted 3rd in the east, which seems about right. Their odds were better due to the East still being down. They have a much easier path to the title game than an Arkansas, Texas A&M or Ole Miss, which is why you see the discrepancy.
Is anyone willing to take that 14-1 bet? I’ll just keep my money.
