NCAA Football Recruiting: Early Signing Period Approved

This will shake up the process a bit.

NCAA Football: North Texas at Tennessee Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

On Monday, the College Commissioner’s Association voted on an early signing period for Football. It passed, meaning we will have an early signing period on December 20th-22nd of this year. Welcome to your new Christmas tradition!

This is a pretty interesting time to hold an early signing period. Schools are out for the holiday break and it’s smack in the middle of bowl season. So instead of bowl prep, staffs are going to have an early signing period to worry about. I would guess we see an adjustment of the bowl schedule — at least the earlier games — in the future.

Other than the scheduling of the signing period, I’m a fan of this idea. National Signing Day is a lot to take in, so narrowing out the field a bit can only help people like me that have to cover it. It also gives kids who have their minds made up to lock into a school and simply get the process over with. I don’t see how this could be a bad thing for anyone, except for the coaches during bowl and holiday season, of course.
