CBS Bold Predictions: Butch Jones on the Hot Seat; Out before November?

CBS Sports’ Ben Kercheval released his list of five bold predictions for the college football season and of course Butch Jones is involved. Kercheval made the bold proclamation that five power five head coaches would be canned before November and mentioned Butch Jones as a potential candidate.

I think he’s right on about coaches being fired early. It’s turned into a race to be first, so you can get a jump on the competition to hire your guy. With a potential name like Chip Kelly on the market, things may accelerate faster than usual.

These are the same names that we’ve heard about all Spring. Each one of these guys needs a good season to stick around, but I think Butch has a little more leeway than most in this group. Back to back nine win seasons have Tennessee back to being respectable, at least.

Tennessee is going to demand more than nine win seasons in the future, however. With the talent that has to be replaced, there’s no doubt that this is a big time “prove-it” year for Butch and his staff. But the wheels would have to fall off in a BIG way for a change to be made in the middle of the season.
