Top 2018 Punter Skyler DeLong Flips From Tennessee to Alabama

Tennessee has lost a commitment.

NCAA Football: Auburn at Alabama Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports

2018 Tennessee commit Skyler DeLong has flipped to Alabama. The top punting prospect committed to Tennessee just two weeks ago, but was expected to visit an Alabama camp regardless. It appears that camp went well for DeLong. Alabama offered DeLong after the camp and he’s made the decision to join the Crimson Tide.

It’s never good when Alabama starts sniffing around one of your commits. That rule holds true here.

The decision for DeLong here makes sense. Alabama has an immediate need for a punter just like Tennessee. Why not go start for 4 years at the best college football program in the land? I can’t blame him.

DeLong is only Alabama’s 4th commitment of the 2018 class to this point. 247 Sports ranks him as the top punter in the country.

DeLong was set to be the next great punter to come through Tennessee with Trevor Daniel set to graduate after this season. Now it appears Tennessee will have to lean on Joe Doyle, who was a preferred walk-on in the 2017 class.
