The Missing Piece for SEC East Teams; ESPN Adds a Running Back for Tennessee

I’d go a different direction.

If you could add any player to Tennessee’s from the rest of the SEC, who would it be? ESPN took a stab a that this week, awarding the Vols LSU’s Derrius Guice.

Tennessee: RB Derrius Guice, LSU

The Vols lost two running backs from last season's team: (Alvin Kamara and Jalen Hurd). While they have rising junior John Kelly back (6.4 yards per carry), having a workhorse like Guice would take a lot of pressure off their young quarterbacks.

This addition certainly makes sense for Tennessee, with the razor thin running back depth chart. But is this the best value here? Question marks at quarterback and on defense make me wonder that.

Whoever starts under center for the Vols (either Quinten Dormady or Jarrett Guarantano) will be a first-time starter at this level, and the best way to ease such a player in is to have a great back to carry the ball.

I’d probably opt for Arden Key, LSU’s pass rusher. Tennessee is replacing Alvin Kamara and Jalen Hurd, but they’re also replacing Derek Barnett and Corey Vereen. That’s a lot of pass rush production to replace.

I’m more confident in John Kelly over anything on the defensive line, so give me a stud pass rusher over Guice.

Who would you add?
