In an interview with Saturdays Down South, Lane Kiffin discussed a number of things, including Tennessee Football. The now Tennessee villain and former head coach of the Vols offered his opinion on Butch Jones and how things are going in Knoxville.
By tough breaks, we can assume he’s talking about the 2015 season. Tennessee was in place to beat Florida before collapsing. They were also in place to beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa that year, holding a lead late in the 4th quarter. Tennessee couldn’t close either game, dooming their season.
Those close calls created the hype going into last year, which in turn has created some heat on Butch Jones after that hype wasn’t lived up to.
Everyone seems to have a differing opinion on Butch Jones, but you had to know that Lane was going to take this route. He has no reason to go out of his way to criticize Butch Jones and Tennessee, who participated in a camp with Kiffin just a few weeks ago. You probably aren’t going to see much bashing in a setting like this. You need to grant a coach anonymity for that to happen.
Kiffin also went into that almost upset of Alabama back in 2009, along with some reflections on Jonathan Crompton. Read the entire piece here.
