Tennessee basketball has picked up a verbal commitment from Davonte Gaines. Gaines is a 6-6 small forward from Buffalo, New York. Gaines had offers from a number of local schools including Buffalo, Rhode Island and Niagara.
It looks like Tennessee will have three spots to fill in 2019, but that could obviously change a lot between now and then.
Volquest had a nice piece on Gaines today. Here’s what Rob Lewis offered on him.
Gaines is a versatile wing who picked the Vols early in the process. A long, athletic player, Gaines is a rangy athlete who excels as a slasher and has a developing perimeter game that suggests he may become a dangerous shooter in time.
Gaines attended Tennessee’s camp earlier this month, which explains the odd Buffalo - Knoxville connection.
UPDATE:
Gaines has received a four star rating from 247 Sports this weekend. He’s ranked just outside the top 100 in the 2019 class for now. Good get for Barnes!
#Vols 2019 hoops commit got a four-star rating on Saturday. No. 115 overall in his class, too. https://t.co/ZSUsdOztX6 via @GoVols247
