Todd Kelly has been named to a different kind of preseason watch list — the Wuerffel Trophy Watch list. This award is handed out to the athlete that “best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.” Kelly is one of 109 players on the watch list.
The award, of course, is named after former Heisman winner and Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel. UTSports.com had this to say of Kelly in their release.
In addition to Kelly's work in the community, he is also a standout in the classroom. Kelly is majoring Biological Science with a concentration in Biochemistry & Cellular and Molecular Biology. He earned CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 honors in 2016. Kelly was named to the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll in 2015 and 2016 and he was also named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll for the 2014-15 school year.
On the football field, Kelly has emerged as a leader and a constant presence on defense. He was the team leader with 71 tackles last season and leads all active players with eight career interceptions during his Tennessee career.
