I think we all knew this day was coming. There was simply too much smoke around this program. Hugh Freeze has “resigned,” effective immediately.

We’ll learn more details as they emerge at the press conference. Offensive line coach Matt Luke has been named the interim head coach. Just last week at SEC Media Days, we learned that Houston Nutt was suing Ole Miss, just one day before it was Freeze’s turn at the podium. I’d be surprised if that isn’t where these new details emerged from.
Freeze held a 39-25 record during his six seasons as the Ole Miss head coach. For now, we also have this to chew on. What a mess in Oxford.

It appears that this new detail coming available was in fact the straw that broke the camel’s back. Ole Miss stood behind their man all offseason long, in the thick of NCAA hot water. It’s now come crashing down before them just days before camp was set to open.
UPDATE:
Matt Luke has been named the interim head coach for the 2017 season. Freeze was asked to resign over a phone call that was placed to an escort service. Ole Miss said that they found a pattern in his behavior which led to Freeze’s exit.
