3 games in 13 days
Get ready for Butch’s latest phrase. Jones stressed how Tennessee will open the season with 3 games in the first 13 days of the season. Butch is of course referring to having to play Georgia Tech on a Monday night, with a quick turnaround for a Saturday game against Indiana State. He even mentioned how the program has looked to the CFL for idea on how to handle the challenge.
Linebacker depth chart up in the air
Bob Shoop sounds like a man that’s ready to try anything when it comes to his linebackers. After last year, you would think that Cortez McDowell and Darrin Kirkland Jr. would be pencilled into the starting lineup, but you would be wrong. It sounds like he wants to give Daniel Bituli, Austin Smith and Quart’e Sapp a shot to earn a starting gig.
Why is Tennessee so hot on the recruiting trail?
The answer to that question is likely due to the new look staff for Butch Jones. Walt Wells, Brady Hoke and Mike Canales are putting in some serious work. Recruiting isn’t everything, but it’s the first hurdle you have to clear as a coach. Now these guys (Hoke in particular) are tasked with getting everything that they can out of some big time talent already on the roster. We’ll see how they change things on the field.
Tennessee hit the practice field for the first time of the fall semester today. There wasn’t much to talk about on the field, but 247 did grab some video highlights to fix up your football appetite.
