Finally — Greg Emerson has committed to Tennessee. This comes just a day after he suffered an ankle injury in Oregon at The Opening Finals. Emerson was the best player left in the state of Tennessee, hailing from Jackson.

This was a long time coming. Emerson said Tennessee “felt like home” just a couple of weeks back at Orange Carpet Day. Now, Emerson has made Tennessee home.
This gives Tennessee an absolute stacked group at defensive tackle. D’Andre Litaker and Brant Lawless have already committed. Emerson is the 3rd four star DT to commit for the 2018 cycle.
More importantly, this continues Butch’s hot streak in-state. The best players from the state are now signed up to play at the state school. That’s a big deal. Tennessee now has six commits within the top ten players in-state.
All of these defensive tackles will bolster a group that badly needs depth. Butch Jones and Bob Shoop will try to get by again this year with what they have, but reinforcements are definitely on the way.
Before Emerson’s commitment, Tennessee was just outside the top five classes in 2018. We’ll see if this bumps them up into that top five range.
