As expected, Greg Emerson committed to Tennessee last night — or the University of Knoxville as he put it. Emerson was the big fish left out there for the Vols. He was thought to be leaning in Tennessee’s direction, but wanted to wait until December to make things official.
He just couldn’t wait any longer. Just one day after injuring his ankle at The Opening Finals, Emerson committed to Tennessee live on NFL Network.
The 6-4, 280 pound defensive tackle is a four star prospect and the second highest rated player in the state of Tennessee. Naturally, a domino like this falling is going to have some effect on the recruiting rankings.
Tennessee was holding steady in the top ten, but look what Emerson’s commitment did for the Vols.

Butch Jones now currently holds a consensus top five recruiting class once again. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if Jones can just stabilize things on the field this year — help is on the way. That’s now three four star commitments at defensive tackle for Tennessee, which is probably one of their weakest spots on the roster.
Butch’s ability to recruit and sell the program is his best trait and it’s paying dividends for Tennessee right now.
