Former Tennessee standout linebacker A.J. Johnson is facing a DUI charge. He was stopped on Kingston Pike early Saturday morning around 1:30 AM. Johnson still faces rape charges stemming from 2015.
The officer noticed Johnson’s vehicle sitting through two red light cycles. Johnson was said to have bloodshot eyes and a marijuana cigarette. Johnson admitted to police that he had been drinking previously.
Johnson was released on bond yesterday.
A.J. and teammate Michael Williams were indicted on aggravated rape charges in 2015. The case has been delayed due to a decision on whether or not the social media communications can be used in the case.
Johnson was a leader on the Tennessee football team from 2011 to 2014. He was one of the best linebackers in the conference, but became a fan favorite operating the wildcat formation on offense. A potential NFL future was squandered by his involvement in this ongoing case.
