The hype is real for freshman cornerback Shawn Shamburger. Anytime a coach gets a chance to brag on him, they take it. He’s always the first name that pops up when asked about freshman contributors.
Now, his black helmet stripe is removed. Coach Jones tweeted it out yesterday.

Shamburger might not crack the starting lineup week one, but it sounds like he’s going to play quite a bit as a freshman. The cornerback rotation is hardly set, so Shamburger seems to be capitalizing on this unique opportunity.
I don’t think too many people saw this coming, either. Shamburger was considered a three star prospect by 247 Sports, not even cracking their top 1000 players from last year.
He’s the third newcomer to have his stripe removed, joining fellow freshmen Theo Jackson and Latrell Bumphus. Just judging on camp buzz alone, I’d expect Josh Palmer and Will Ignont to be next.
