The 2016 Heisman Trophy race was probably the most dull one that I can remember. Louisville’s Lamar Jackson took the college football season over last year and really never gave anyone else a chance. Will he do it again this year? It’s possible, but oddmakers at the Westgate Las Vegas list him with the second best odds to take home the 2017 Heisman.
USC’s Sam Darnold is ahead, while Jackson and Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield are tied for second. Take a look at the full list below.

Some takeaways here...
J.T. Barrett — who seemingly is going into his 10th season at Ohio State — is listed 4th. He’s got as good of a shot as any, playing for what should be a near playoff lock in Ohio State.
You have to go all the way down to 20-1 to find an SEC player. The first one is Jalen Hurts, followed by Bo Scarborough. Honestly, Alabama is so loaded that taking either of these guys doesn’t make much sense to me. There’s only so many touches to go around.
A fascinating longshot was Auburn’s Jarrett Stidham, but his odds have moved from 50-1 all the way down to 15-1. The public is buying into the Auburn Tigers hype.
Another interesting one is Florida State’s big time freshman running back Cam Akers. He’s listed at 100-1 without even taking a snap. You of course remember Akers from last year’s recruiting cycle, where the Vols were squarely in the mix. He’s expected to take the bulk of the carries for the Seminoles this season.
For my money, Lamar Jackson at 10-1 is just too good to pass up. Who’s your pick to take home the hardware?
