On Wednesday afternoon, ticket offices from both schools announced that the game on Labor Day at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta had both sold their total allotment of tickets.
CEO of the Peach Bowl Gary Stoken released a statement concerning news of the now sold out showdown which will kickoff in 26 days:
“I can’t think of a better way to officially open the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium than with an ACC-SEC rivalry game in a sold out atmosphere in the Capital of College Football. To hose two great traditional powers in Georgia Tech and Tennessee, while also honoring Hall of Famer Bobby Dodd, who was an All-American at Tennessee and a National Championship Coach at Georgia Tech, is very special way to end the first weekend of college football.”
Tennessee and Georgia Tech will be meeting for the first time since 1987 (Tennessee won 29-15), renewing what was once a solid rivalry. The Vols have a 24-17-2 lead over the Yellow Jackets in the 43 meetings that have taken place beginning in 1902.
