Tennessee head coach Butch Jones gave some updates on some injured players as we head into the weekend. First and foremost, Jones announced that Darrin Kirkland Jr. would miss the season due to a torn meniscus.
Jones did have some good news, however. He announced that senior receiver Josh Smith would make the trip to Atlanta and dress for the game. Smith was initially feared to be out for an extended amount of time with a collarbone injury, but that simply turned out to be an AC Sprain.
Smith will be a game time decision. That has to be a big relief for Jones and Larry Scott, who could really use the experience on the receiver depth chart.
The same goes for junior defensive tackle Shy Tuttle. He’s been easing back into things after a season ending leg injury last year, but is close to getting back to full strength. Jones said that Tuttle would be a game time decision as well. Tuttle was listed 3rd on the defensive tackle depth chart behind Kahlil McKenzie and Kendal Vickers.
Jones said on Wednesday that Evan Berry is day to day, but is expected to play on Monday night. Shaq Wiggins is still dealing with a hip issue, but Jones did not update his status for Monday.
