Tennessee Football: Butch Jones rules three Vols out against Florida

The latest updates.

Tennessee head coach Butch Jones gave an injury update today with a trip to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators on the horizon. He ruled reserve tight end Eli Wolf, reserve defensive back Baylen Buchanan and strong-side linebacker Austin Smith out for Saturday.

Wolf went down last Saturday against Indiana State with what appeared to be a serious injury. Jones said that Wolf’s injury was a sprained ankle, which is good news.

Jones said that senior safety and stud return man Evan Berry is questionable to play against the Gators. Berry’s services would be a huge help to Tennessee on Saturday as they get set to play in a likely low scoring contest. Stealing some yardage on special teams would be a big deal.

Jones said everyone else is expected to play — which tells me Marcus Tatum and Shaq Wiggins should be back.

Josh Smith is expected to see his first playing time of 2017 on Saturday. Smith will be a welcomed veteran addition to what has become a very young receiver depth chart. Latrell Williams and Tyler Byrd are set to return as well, Jones said.

The addition of those three will be interesting to follow. The passing attack has just been a tick off to this point. We’ll see if Quinten Dormady has any immediate chemistry with those three.
