The Southeastern Conference officially released the 2018 schedules for all 14 teams on Tuesday afternoon. While the Vols’ may have just kicked off their 2017 conference slate in Gainesville last Saturday, that doesn’t mean we can’t take a look at who Tennessee will face next season.
The 2018 schedule of course includes the six eastern division opponents the Vols face annually as well as their permanent western division rival, Alabama. There are a few shake ups compared to the 2017 schedule, however, including some in state opponents, old conference foes, and a team from a Power 5 conference.
Tennessee will begin their season again at a neutral site when they face off against West Virginia at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte in an SEC/Big 12 showdown. The Vols will also play UTEP, East Tennessee State, and UNC-Charlotte at home to complete their out of conference slate. The meeting between the Vols and East Tennessee State will be the first time both programs have played each other.
As usual, conference play will start with Florida in Neyland Stadium on September 22nd, followed by a trip to Athens to take on Georgia. In addition to facing Alabama out of the west, Tennessee will head to the Plains to take on Auburn, marking the first time these two teams have met since 2013 as well as the first time Tennessee has traveled to Jordan-Hare Stadium since 2008.
