Tennessee head coach Butch Jones discussed his narrow win over UMass today. Here are the highlights.
- On the quarterback change: “We were looking for a spark. We were looking for some energy. I’ll know more about how they played when I watch the video.” Continued: “Not one play was a determining factor of putting Jarrett (Guarantano) in the game. It was a combination of a lot of things.”
- “I think we have two very capable quarterbacks and we’ll continue to work with them.”
- On the effort today: “I love our kids, they’ll be fine. It’s a learning experience. I give UMass a lot of credit. They were gritty — we knew they were gritty. They’re better than their record shows.”
- On the UMass defensive effort: “They were committing 8-9 men to the box. They did a good job of moving the front, filling the gaps.”
- On injuries: “I’ll know more on Monday about where they’re at (on Eli Wolf and Jakob Johnson).”
- On Brandon Johnson: “He made some big plays in some moments that we needed big plays.”
