The fifth-ranked Tennessee Volunteers will get a huge early season test tonight against the second-ranked Kansas Jayhawks. It’s another top five matchup for college basketball, the third of the early season. This one will be played for the NIT Season Tip-Off Tournament title in Brooklyn, New York.
Kansas defeated Marquette in their first game, rallying back after the Golden Eagles hit them with a three-point barrage in the first half. The Jayhawks simply overpowered Marquette in the second half, behind the efforts of Dedric Lawson who poured in 26 points and 12 rebounds.
Tennessee saw a similar scenario play out against Louisville, eventually putting the Cardinals away late in the second half with a 14-0 burst.
For the Vols, it’s likely the first of two top five matchups in the next couple of weeks. Tennessee will face Gonzaga in Phoenix on December 9th, adding another high profile game to their resume.
