Tennessee holds steady in the polls following win at Memphis

NCAA Basketball: Tennessee at Memphis Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

Tennessee stood firm in the college basketball poll this week following a solid win on the road at Memphis. The Vols controlled that game from start to finish, building on the momentum they established by beating then No. 1 Gonzaga six days before.

There weren’t any changes at the top of the polls this week as everyone held serve. Kansas and Duke are 1-2 in both major polls, with Virginia checking in ahead of Tennessee in the coaches poll.

AP Poll: 3rd

Coaches Poll: 4th

There was quite a bit of shuffling below Tennessee, however. Gonzaga took a tumble after losing on the road to North Carolina on Saturday. The Zags are now the eighth ranked team in the country, just ahead of the Tar Heels.

Auburn climbed to seventh in the AP Poll, despite narrowly beating UAB over the weekend. Mississippi State moved to 17th, while Kentucky hung on to their 19th place ranking.

The Vols have Samford and Wake Forest at home this week before they break for Christmas. After that, it’s just about go-time for conference play, which is when things will really start to get fun.
