One of the first dominoes to fall this offseason was the announcement that quarterback Will McBride would transfer. McBride committed to Butch Jones’ staff at Tennessee, appearing in a couple of games down the stretch in 2017. After Jeremy Pruitt’s staff signed JT Shrout and Brian Mauer in back to back classes, the writing was on the wall.
The Texas native announced that he would return home on Wednesday night.
Excited to announce I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Lamar University! #WeAreLU

He also had a message for the Tennessee fanbase.
Also want to take the time to say I REALLY APPRECIATE the support from EVERYONE but specifically Vol Nation. Tennessee is a special place and the tradition is unmatched. I learned so much in Knoxville. I’m certainly going to miss my brothers repping the orange and white. #VFL

Lamar competes at the FCS level, so he’ll be eligible to compete immediately for the Cardinals, who went 7-5 last season in the Southland.
McBride completed his Tennessee career 17-40, throwing for 152 yards, a touchdown and two picks. He did not play in 2018.
