We’ve heard plenty about five-star Tennessee target Darnell Wright, but what about fellow five-star George Pickens? The big time receiver and current Auburn commit has kept his recruitment pretty open to this point. He didn’t sign with the Tigers during the early signing period and other teams are trying to take advantage.
According to Pickens himself, who spoke at the Under Armour All-America game, Tennessee is one of those schools working to flip him.
“Tennessee and Florida are two schools I am really looking at for visits.
”Tennessee never slowed down with me. Since coach Jeremy Pruitt took over, they have been on me. They have a nice family vibe there. They played better than some thought they would this season, so I like what the new staff is doing there.” (Via Rivals)
The Hoover, Alabama native is the 36th overall player in the 2019 247 Sports Composite. He’s the 7th ranked receiver prospect and the 3rd ranked player in the state of Alabama.
Tennessee still has a need at receiver, so their interest makes sense. Four-star Ramel Keyton and three-star Jerrod Means signed with the Vols early, but with Jauan Jennings and Marquez Callaway set to leave after the 2019 season, Jeremy Pruitt’s staff knows they need to get more talented at that position quickly.
Pickens fits that bill, and then some. The 6-3, 190 pound receiver hauled in 72 balls for 1,387 yards this season for Hoover.
Georgia, Florida, LSU, Miami and Ohio State are all still in play for Pickens as well. Things seem wide open here, so this is definitely a name to monitor over the next month. We’ll see if Tennessee can get him on campus in January.
