Chris Weinke is expected to become the next running backs coach at Tennessee, according to 247 Sports. Weinke’s name immediately came to the surface after Robert Gillespie’s sudden exit on Monday.
Weinke served as an offensive analyst at Alabama last season. The former Heisman Trophy winner and Florida State Seminole was the quarterbacks coach with the Rams before that. Weinke spent 2010-2014 as the head coach at IMG Academy, which will undoubtedly be an asset for the Volunteers on the recruiting trail.
Weinke at least had some interest in Tennessee back in December. It was rumored that he made the trip to Knoxville to interview for a position on Pruitt’s staff, but nothing came of it. Weinke also interviewed for a spot on Butch Jones’ staff back in early 2017.
With Robert Gillespie’s departure this week, this was a simple fix for Jeremy Pruitt. So now for the second time, Pruitt has rounded out his initial staff at Tennessee.
