Tennessee falls one spot in new AP Poll after loss at Georgia

Tennessee is now No. 19.

NCAA Basketball: Tennessee at Georgia Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

After another 1-1 week on the basketball court, the Tennessee Volunteers dropped once again in the AP Poll. It wasn’t all that bad, though. Tennessee falls to No. 19, dropping just one slot from last week. The Volunteers topped out at No. 15 two weeks ago, but losses to Alabama and Georgia have knocked them back down the totem pole.

The Auburn Tigers still lead the way for the SEC, checking in at No. 12 in this week’s edition. They do have some diversity to deal with though, as big man Anfernee McLemore’s season came to an end on Saturday after a gruesome injury. That’s a storyline to follow over the next two weeks.

The MTSU Blue Raiders joined the top 25 this week, giving the state of Tennessee two teams inside the AP Poll. MTSU is 22-5, looking stout once again as tournament season nears.

Bracketology update

Tennessee is holding steady as a No. 4 seed around the web’s NCAA Tournament projections today, despite what happened on Saturday. They still have a chance to improve that with the schedule that they’ve played, but they also have some issues to iron out on the court too. Wednesday’s game against Florida is a big opportunity for another quality win.
