The Tennessee Volunteers are looking mighty solid around this week’s NCAA Tournament projections. The Vols are 21-7, sitting second in the SEC with a shot at bettering that this week. Regardless of what happens in the conference, Tennessee is sitting pretty nationally.
The top Bracketology experts each have Tennessee as a No. 3 seed with just one week to play in the regular season.
ESPN (Joe Lunardi): 3 vs. Northern Kentucky
CBS (Jerry Palm): 3 vs. Rider
Tennessee is currently 6-7 in quadrant one, 5-0 in quadrant two, 7-0 in quadrant three and 3-0 in quadrant four. They will finish out the regular season with a trip to Mississippi State and then a home game against Georgia. Those games are far from easy wins.
The Vols could likely climb as high as a No. 2 seed if they keep winning. They’re going to have a chance to grab more quality wins next week in the SEC Tournament. If pressed, I would guess their floor would be a No. 4 seed — maybe a five if the bottom falls completely out.
One win this week would clinch Tennessee’s spot as a No. 2 seed in St. Louis at the SEC Tournament. That would also mean a double bye.
We’ll see how it all plays out. It’s good to have a team in the mix once again as we head into March.
