Alabama is currently in talks with Butch Jones about potentially joining their staff, per AL.com. Jones has been out of work since Tennessee fired him back in November. Rumors grew last night on Twitter that Jones had been spotted in Tuscaloosa over the weekend. It appears that those rumors were true.
Here’s the quote from AL.com.
Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban has been in contact with former Tennessee coach Butch Jones regarding an offensive analyst position, sources told AL.com. Jones has visited Tuscaloosa and met with Saban in person, per sources.
Jones is currently getting his 8.25 million dollar buyout from Tennessee in monthly sums, which total roughly $200,000 per month. That figure is mitigated by future salary, per the release from the school.
Nick Saban has a history of doing this. He brings in former big time coaches for a couple of years, promotes them, then sends them back off into the coaching world. Could Butch Jones be the next to take that opportunity?
Maybe Alabama needs a little help in the catchphrase department. Butch can certainly help Nick come up with a motto for the inevitable 2018 national title run.
