There were a few hours there where it appeared that Greg Schiano was going to be the next head coach at Tennessee. That was met with shock and awe from the Tennessee fanbase, prominent boosters, former players and even some politicians.
Schiano has had quite the interesting path since that day. After things broke down with Tennessee, Schiano returned to his post as Ohio State’s defensive coordinator. However, Urban Meyer opted to hire Alex Grinch from Washington State as an assistant. His initial role was unclear, but there were reports that he would serve as co-defensive coordinator.
From there, the NFL rumblings began to surround Schiano. Now it appears that he will be headed to New England.

Schiano will reportedly take over the Patriots defense, taking the job that Matt Patricia vacated when he opted to take the Lions head coaching position.
In the end, Schiano probably made the right call here. The Tennessee fiasco was always going to be connected to him. Taking a job under Belichick was probably the best outcome Schiano could have hoped for after how things played out for him. I think we can all agree that Tennessee got a much better fit in Jeremy Pruitt, too.
Hopefully the national media can put this one to bed for good now.
