Tennessee received a big time commitment from top linebacker prospect JJ Peterson last month at the U.S. Army All-American game. Peterson is a four star prospect that was leaning Alabama until Jeremy Pruitt took over at Tennessee.
Peterson committed to Tennessee on that day, but it appears that Nick Saban and Alabama are still very much in the picture. In a report from AL.com, Peterson’s high school coach Rush Propst said that Alabama is making a strong push for Peterson.
“Alabama has made a very strong push,” said Rush Propst, Peterson’s coach at Colquitt County High School. “I don’t think either one, Alabama or Tennessee, is a clear favorite as of Sunday afternoon. I think it’s a dead heat right now, 50-50.”
Peterson has been connected to top outside linebacker Quay Walker throughout the recruiting cycle. Some believe that the two will commit to the same school.
Simply put, this is one that Jeremy Pruitt can’t afford to lose. Peterson would likely have a chance to play right off the bat in the teeth of his 3-4 defensive attack. Add this one to the ever-growing list of storylines to follow as we creep towards Wednesday.
